This Coffee Filter Rainbow is a fun spring craft for kids to make at home or at school.
With just a few common household art supplies, these cute coffee filter rainbows can be made in about 30 minutes (not including drying time).
You can also use coffee filter crafts for kids to teach them about color theory and blending. Plus, it’s the perfect time to learn the colors of the rainbow and incorporate it into other weather learning activities.

Rainbow Coffee Filter Spring Craft
When I think of spring, I often think of rainbows. They are pretty and fascinating to learn about too. They also make excellent Saint Patrick’s Day crafts for kids too!
Kids can practice the order of the rainbow while working on this art project. Encourage them to follow ROY G BIV (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet) as they color their coffee filter with markers.
I love this rainbow craft because it’s easy to make and looks adorable when it’s finished. It’s great for toddlers, preschoolers, and older kids.
Younger ones may need a little more assistance gluing it together, but they will enjoy coloring and spraying it!
I think the Kawaii inspired cloud face adds an extra layer of cuteness, like these Kawaii Halloween Flower Pots.
If you don’t want to make a face, you can write your child’s name on the cloud instead, glue cotton balls on it, or leave it blank.
When it’s done, you can hang it in the window as a suncatcher!

If you don’t have these materials on hand, you can find them on Amazon, at the Dollar Tree Store (yes even online!), or wherever you prefer to shop for crafting supplies.
- Round White Coffee Filters
- Assorted Googly Eyes
- Washable Markers
- White and Pink craft paper (cardstock or construction paper)
- Glue gun and glue sticks or a Liquid Glue with fine tip applicator (I like this tacky craft glue)
- Water Spray Bottle
- Scissors
- Rainbow Cloud Pattern (available by filling out the form at the bottom of the post)
How to Make a Coffee Filter Rainbow With Cloud
Begin by flattening your round coffee filters. Then add colors in circles, in rainbow order with washable markers.
Place your colored coffee filter papers on a cookie sheet and mist with water to watch the magic as the colors spread and blend!
TIP: Wax or freezer paper will work as well in place of a cookie sheet, but place an old towel underneath to protect your work surface.
Set them aside to dry. Depending on the humidity, it will take about 1-2 hours for the filters to air dry. Some readers have suggested using a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.
Once dry, fold the colored coffee filters in half and cut along the fold with scissors. This will create two rainbow shapes from each filter.
Next you will make the cloud shape. You can cut one out free hand or use our free printable pattern. Download, print and cut out the cloud pattern.
Trace one cloud shape onto white craft paper and cut out with scissors. Glue cloud to the rainbow with either a glue gun or tacky craft glue. (Tacky glue will take longer to dry, but can be used by kids.)
Trace two circles onto pink craft paper and then cut out with scissors to use as the cheeks.
Assemble the Kawaii inspired face on the cloud, using our pictures as your guide. Glue on googly eyes, then the cheeks. Lastly, draw a smile on the face with a marker.
Hang them up for lovely spring craft decorations!
