Fish Puns Printable Cards and Cupcake Liner Craft

These printable fish themed cards feature cute puns on the front. There are three cards included:

  • You are O-fish-ally the best
  • You are FIN-TASTIC
  • I’m Hooked On You

While this is intended to be a card, the paper baking cup fish craft instructions can be used to make fish on construction paper as well as a variety of other fun ocean projects or summer-themed crafts.

This cupcake liner craft card uses just a few common craft and baking supplies and only takes about 20 minutes to complete (plus additional drying time).

Do this craft at home, as a family, or at school. It’s a quick and easy craft to include in an art center for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day or Grandparent’s Day.

Two completed printable cards that say You Are Fin-Tastic. Words are colored in. Left card has a purple fish made from paper baking cups. Card on the right has a blue, purple, and yellow cupcake liner fish.

Making these homemade craft cards is a fun fine motor activity for preschool and kindergarten children that provides coloring, cutting and gluing practice.

Older children will also enjoy this craft that they can complete independently.

It’s also the perfect craft project if you want to avoid messy projects.

If you don’t have cupcake liners on hand, you can still use the printable card for other projects. For example, kids can paint or color the front of the card with their own drawings of fish.

Additionally, if you do not have colored paper baking cups you can color in white ones with crayons or markers.

Cupcake Liner Fish Craft Card Supplies:

How to Make a Cupcake Liner Fish Craft Card:

First you will need to download and print out our printable fish pun cards.

Please note: There are three versions of the printable card with different fish pun sayings. These directions are relevant to all of the templates in the file above.

I recommend using cardstock paper for this project. The heavier weight paper holds up better to gluing and stands better if you wish to display your card.

Next you will need to color in the text on the front of the card.

Once that is colored, fold the card in half. Next, it’s time to begin making the fish!

Starting with the fish tail, flatten a baking cup and fold it in half one time. Cut the baking cup in half and then cut on the folded line.

With your liquid glue or glue stick, attach your tail to either the far left or right side of the card, depending on the direction you want your fish to face.

Next, glue on a flattened whole baking cup, offsetting it to one side to show off the tail.

If making a fish on a line, cut a small triangle in the cupcake liner for the mouth before gluing it to the card.

To make a fin, flatten a baking cup and fold it in half twice. Cut it in half and then also cut it on your folded lines. I recommend cutting the center of the baking cup off for this so only the wavy texture remains.

Lastly, you will need to either peel and stick or glue on a wiggle eye.

While your fish is drying, cut out your choice of ‘Happy Mother’s Day’, ‘Happy Father’s Day’, ‘Happy Grandparent’s Day’ or ‘Happy Parent’s Day’.

Once your fish is dry, you can add a mouth or smile to your fish with a fine-tip marker.

If making a fish on a line, add a marker line from the top of your card to your fish’s open mouth.

A black marker line drawn from top of card into the open fish mouth. Right card says You Are Fin-Tastic with a multicolored cupcake liner fish in the center.

Next, attach your selected phrase to the inside of the card using liquid glue or a glue stick.

Set aside to dry completely.
