I previously posted about the breastfeeding milestone awards. These are like golden star stickers for breastfeeding mamas (or banana stickers if you are Dethklok).
They are not meant to make anyone feel bad, but are a way to help celebrate the ability to continue the breastfeeding (or pumping!) relationship despite societal pressures and other life factors that can make this difficult.
While natural, it’s not necessarily easy. So for me to reach each milestone along the way has encouraged me to keep going and to made me proud of our accomplishments.
We have surpassed the one year mark so I am thrilled to announce that I have obtained the Golden Boobies Award (kind of like Golden Globe but… not). The girls, Rissa, and I have been through a lot.
We survived soreness, cracked nipples, nursing amnesia, tongue disorganization, the fear of public breastfeeding, and other random things I can’t think of right now.
We’ve laughed, we’ve cried. We’ve embraced it, we’ve struggled with it. We’ve offered support to others and sought it as well.
I don’t know when she’ll wean. On one hand I look forward to it do she isn’t as dependent on me; on the other, I don’t want to lose that special time together. At least at this point I feel I’ve offered and provided for her needs well. I’m also putting some action behind my lactivism and pumping some milk for a newborn who needs it.
Now to see if we reach diamond… And platinum?

I know this post is old but I just wanted to say congrats! I got my golden boobies on 11/07/11 (so our babies must be close in age!) and I had to work to get that long. My previous two kids didn't go as long but I didn't know about what I really needed to do to get that far either. My daughter made it till 18 months! (yay, platinum boobies!) and then weaned (mainly because I was/am 3 months pregnant and my milk finally dried up)

Great article!. I breastfed my first two kids until they were 2 1/2. They had a hard time self weaning. I'm currently breastfeeding my third child. I wish I had seen this article for my first child when I was so close to giving up. This article is a must read for every mom who is thinking about it, having a hard time, or currently nursing.

Good for you! I do think hearing success stories from others can be very helpful when having a tough time. I'm so glad I didn't give up. Hopefully it will go well with #2 as well

Love this article! Thank you for sharing. I have to say appreciate you writing about breastfeeding and your experience. I haven't found any other Mommy blogger out there that has done this. Thank you for helping me laugh and being able to relate.

Good for you! I have been nursing for almost 28 months now with my son. I'm getting pressure from my mother and husband to stop now. I don't know if I want to just yet though.

That's awesome! Well the time not the pressure and comments. We are at 14 months now!

You make me jealous. I gave it a good try with baby #1 and then with baby #2 it was just all bad and never got to try it and so with baby #3 I am working so hard to get ready to try it again. I can not wait.
