Coffee Filter Apple Craft Supplies

You’ll need a few simple supplies to create apples using coffee filters. Begin with round white coffee filters as your base.

You’ll also need washable markers to color the filters; make sure to choose a variety of red, green, and yellow markers for a more realistic effect.

When you spritz the colored filters with water from a spray bottle—my preferred option being a fingertip spray bottle—the ink will spread and blend beautifully.

Additionally, construction paper is required to craft the stem and leaf, adding those finishing touches.

Lastly, a craft mat is highly recommended to contain any mess and protect your workspace from staining caused by the ink.

How to Make Coffee Filter Apples

Next, grab some washable markers and let the kids color the filter—red and pink for that classic apple look, or greens and yellows for different varieties. Encourage them to get creative with any colors they want!

Top photo shows coffee filter paper colored with two different shades of red markers. Bottom photo shows how it looks after blending with water.

Once they’re done, mist the filter with water or use pipettes to drip water over it, which will help the colors blend beautifully. Allow the filter to dry completely.

While it’s drying, cut a small rectangle from brown construction paper for the stem and a leaf shape from green paper.

Finally, glue the stem to the top of the apple and attach the leaf. You can display your colorful apples on construction paper or hang them up as cheerful decorations!
