Which Holidays Are Celebrated With Fireworks?
Fireworks are spectacular displays that symbolize celebration and jubilation, most commonly associated with Independence Day in the United States, commemorating the country’s declaration of independence on July 4th.
Around the world, fireworks illuminate the skies during New Year’s Eve, marking the start of a new year with hope and excitement. Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights in India, and Chinese New Year, celebrate cultural heritage and traditions with vibrant fireworks displays.
These festivals use fireworks to foster unity, bring joy, and sometimes, according to traditions, ward off evil spirits.

Cupcake Liner Fireworks Craft Supplies
The beauty of this activity lies in its simplicity, making it an incredibly accessible project for children and adults. Utilizing everyday items such as black construction paper, chalk, cupcake liners, scissors, and glue turns simple supplies into stunning pieces of art.
The black construction paper serves as the night sky against which the fireworks will pop, chalk shows up well on the black paper to outline buildings or add lighting effects, and the colorful cupcake liners (these patriotic foil baking cups are perfect) mimic the vibrant explosions of fireworks.
Optional sparkles, glitter, or sequins can be added for an extra touch of sparkle, bringing the dazzling effect of fireworks to life.

How to Make a Cupcake Liner Fireworks Craft
Creating cupcake liner fireworks is a simple yet creative craft that brings the excitement of fireworks to paper.
The process begins with kids using chalk to draw buildings at the bottom of a piece of black construction paper, which helps them practice drawing basic shapes like squares and rectangles.
The vivid contrast of chalk on black paper enhances the nighttime skyline effect, though crayons or markers can also be used for those who prefer.
Next, children select various cupcake liners, which they flatten and then snip around the edges to simulate the expansive rays of fireworks.
For variety in the size of the bursts, they can fold liners into quarters and make more detailed cuts. The fringed liners are then strategically glued above the chalk-drawn buildings.
Glue only the bottom of the baking cup to create the impression of fireworks bursting in the sky and off the page. This will lift the fringes off the page, creating a three-dimensional effect.
Adding glitter glue to the fringes can infuse an extra sparkle reminiscent of actual fireworks. Arranging the colorful liners against the dark paper encourages children to consider composition and aesthetics, resulting in a lively depiction of a fireworks display that bursts with creativity and color.

Materials
- Black construction paper
- Chalk
- Cupcake Liners
Tools
- Scissors
- Glue
Instructions
- Use chalk to draw buildings at the bottom of the construction paper. This is an excellent way for kids to work on drawing basic shapes like squares and rectangles.
- We suggest using chalk because it appears nicely on the black paper, but you can use crayons or markers.
- Select a few cupcake liners and flatten them. Make fringe cuts around the baking cups to create large bursts. To make smaller ones, fold the liner in half and half again to trim away the end before making cuts along the edge.
- Finally, glue the back of the cupcake liner above the buildings on the construction paper. To make the bursts pop off the page, only glue the bottom of the cups down.
- If you want to add a little extra pizzazz, decorate the firework bursts with glitter glue.
Notes
- Guide kids to cut along the ridges in the cupcake liners.
- Make different sizes by cutting down the cupcake liners.
- Kids can work on drawing basic shapes like rectangles and squares for the buildings.
- Chalk appears well on black paper, but markers or crayons can be used too.
