This colorful felt rainbow bookmark is a simple project. These make cute decorations or party favors for a rainbow birthday party too.
Kids will love creating a rainbow to mark their place in their book. The felt strips also feel nice for people who like to fidget with something while reading. Want more ideas like this? Check out our list of craft ideas for kids.

Rainbow Bookmark Felt Craft
I love easy kids’ crafts like this adorable felt rainbow. It takes 30 minutes or less to make this simple felt craft as a fun family activity.
Preschool and kindergarten children can work on identifying shapes, colors, scissor skills, and counting with this project. Plus, it’s a hands-on way to learn the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet (or ROY G BIV).
It’s also a great time to start discussing clouds and the science of rainbows. Kids will love working on this types of clouds activity too!
I recommend using a hot glue gun because it makes the craft more durable, especially if you use it for a decoration. Plus, it dries quicker.
However, if you are making these with younger children, you may want to use tacky craft glue (that’s my favorite one to use) instead, but you will need additional drying time.
Otherwise, an adult can assist with assembly or supervise as older kids put their project together.
Enjoy the options of how to use these bright, colorful rainbows when you’re done. They make a great place keeper for all your favorite books or can be hung up as a decoration.
Another idea is to add a name on the back of the cloud or along one of the colors as a place card. The possibilities are endless!

How to Make a Felt Rainbow Bookmark:
Download, print, and cut out the RAINBOW BOOKMARK PATTERNS. The patterns are not required, but may make it easier to prep this activity.
Start by tracing the patterns onto the colored craft felt with a permanent marker to create the clouds, cheeks, and rainbow stripes.
Cut the pieces out with scissors, inside the lines, so you have a clean finished project.
Lay out the colored strips of felt in rainbow order (ROYGBIV) on a flat work surface. Glue the first cloud shape to the rainbow beams with the glue gun and glue sticks.
Once dry, flip it over so you can see where the rainbow strips are glued to the back cloud.
Take the second cloud piece and glue it over the top of the other cloud and rainbow. Now the rainbow looks like it is coming out of the cloud from either side.
Next, cut two small squares from light pink craft felt. Cut the squares into circles for the Rainbow’s cheeks and glue them to the cloud.
Then glue the googly eyes to the top center of the cloud, placing the eyes right beside each other so they are touching.
Draw a smile from cheek to cheek onto the white cloud with a black marker.
