I recently learned a lot about avocados. My husband was joking around last night that in a short time I became an expert. We never bought avocados before. We haven’t really tried anything other than guacamole but I was determined to try something different with the avocados from Mexico (a popular Hass variety) that I received as part of this campaign tour.
After participating in this and trying to come up with a tasty treat for Halloween, I learned more about where avocados come from and how to tell if they are ripe. I’m still not an expert on how to tell if it is rotten until I cut it open. I did learn that when buying from the supermarket, it’s better to buy one that isn’t quite ripe yet since I had the unfortunate luck of buying one that I thought was ripe enough to be used the same day but it was spoiled.
Avocados from Mexico are great to use year round for recipes since they grow year round. But, come on – you know that green is perfect for a freaky Halloween dish!
Spooky Sludge
- One Avocado
- One Banana
- One serving (5-6oz) vanilla Greek yogurt
- One cup milk
Add ingredients to blender and blend until desired consistency. To make it thinner, add more milk.
Best served in a chilled glass. Enjoy the touch of green for your Halloween party!
I have submitted this as part of the Spookamole Recipe Contest. Do you have a great avocado recipe that is frightfully delicious? You can enter the contest too! (No blog post necessary.)

I love avocado, and I hope my son will enjoy them eventually too, but I'm not sure I could do avocado and banana together!
