How to Make a Hatching Chick Tissue Paper Suncatcher:
First you will need to download and print out our printable medium egg craft template.
I recommend using regular printer paper for this project. The light will shine through plain printer paper easier than cardstock.
Next you will need to cut your tissue paper into small one inch squares in a variety of bright and/or pastel colors (i.e. pinks, greens, oranges, yellows, purples and blues).
You can also buy pre-cut tissue paper squares for a quick and easy project.
Younger children could also rip the tissue paper into smaller pieces and older children could cut their own.
Then it is time to start gluing! Use regular liquid glue or a glue stick to cover the entire egg shape with tissue paper.
It’s okay if the tissue paper overlaps or goes over the edges of the template.
Set the egg aside to dry.
While the egg is drying, prep your other materials.
Find an approximately 4” round object for tracing.
Trace and then cut out your circle on yellow construction paper.
Also, cut two 2” wing shapes from the yellow construction paper.
Using your orange construction paper, cut one corner off to form a triangle shape for the beak.
You will also need 2 googly eyes.
Once the glue on the egg is dry, cut out the template.
Now cut your egg about halfway down across in a zig-zag pattern.
Helpful tip: Trace a zig-zag pattern on the back of the egg first to serve as a cutting guide.
Using your glue, attach the cut egg to the top and bottom of your round yellow circle. Then add your eyes, wings and beak.
Now you have an adorable hatching chick suncatcher to hang in the window and enjoy!
Use these removable mounting tabs to make it super easy to display in a window around your home or classroom.
