Heart Suncatcher Craft Supplies:

Gathering the supplies for this craft is simple, as many of the materials required are probably already in your arts and crafts stash.

The key component is our Heart Craft Template, which you can conveniently access for free. Simply fill out the form located at the end of this post to download it. The template includes multiple sizes of hearts to cater to your creative preferences.

To create a vibrant suncatcher, you’ll need an assortment of tissue paper. You can use standard sheets of tissue paper that your kids can cut or tear into smaller pieces, or you could opt for precut tissue paper squares to save some time.

Remember to keep scissors and glue at hand. I recommend using a glue stick as it’s less messy and easier for younger kids to handle.

To make your heart suncatcher more durable, consider laminating it once completed. Using self-adhesive laminating sheets makes this very easy.

For hanging, I suggest Scotch(R) Removable Wall Mounting Tabs, although its usage is not necessary to complete this project.

How to Make a Tissue Paper Heart Suncatcher:

To begin, download and print our printable heart craft template. Please note that the template offers different sizes for various projects. The suncatchers in the photos were made using the largest size.

For this project, I recommend using regular printer paper as it allows light to shine through better compared to heavier cardstock.

Next, cut tissue paper into small one-inch squares, using a variety of colors. If you prefer, you can also purchase pre-cut tissue paper squares for a quick and convenient project.

Younger children can rip the tissue paper into smaller pieces, while older children can cut their own.

Now, it’s time to start gluing! Use liquid glue or glue sticks to cover the entire heart shape with tissue paper. Don’t worry if the tissue paper overlaps or extends beyond the edges.

Set the suncatchers aside to dry. Once the glue is dry, carefully cut out the template. For a lasting homemade Valentine decoration, use these self-adhesive laminating sheets.
