How to Make a Hanging Popsicle Stick Rainbow With Felt Cloud:
Arrange one set of six colored popsicle sticks in rainbow order: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple. Alternatively, you may have the kids color plain craft sticks with markers or paint them.
Stagger the sticks so they create a chevron pattern. Glue a piece of paper to the craft sticks, then attach the second set of rainbow craft sticks on top.
Print and cut out the cloud pattern. Use it to trace the cloud shape onto white felt twice and cut those out with scissors.
TIP: Cut out the cloud from inside of the lines, so you have a clean finished project without marks on the edges.
Line up the two white felt cloud shapes and use blue embroidery floss to sew them together using a running stitch. Do not sew them together all the way around.
Leave an opening wide enough to fit the rainbow craft sticks into the bottom, but continue the running stitch on the top layer of felt for decoration.
Stuff the cloud with the polyester pillow stuffing. If you do not have any on hand, you may stuff it with cotton balls.
Now insert the popsicle stick rainbow into the cloud and glue the cloud to the craft sticks.
Trace the cheek shapes onto pink felt twice and cut out with scissors. Using the guide on the pattern sheet or the photos in this post, attach the cheeks and googly eyes to the cloud.
Carefully draw a half circle spanning from cheek to cheek with the permanent black marker to create a cute smile.
To hang it, cut a ten-inch length of bakers twine. Knot the twine at each end and secure to the back of the cloud with a glue gun.
Once it’s complete dry and the glue has set, it’s ready to hang!
No Sew Variation:
There are a couple options to modify this craft project that won’t require sewing the felt cloud. One option is to use fabric glue with or without stuffing the cloud.
You may also cut the cloud pieces out of craft foam or cardstock and then glue those to the rainbow popsicle sticks.
