Have you seen The Secret Life of Pets yet? It is a blockbuster movie smash earning over 200 million so far. The movie features an array of pets in a tongue-in-cheek look at how animals see their human counterparts.
With plenty of laugh out loud moments and animated characters to root for, this movie resonated with adults and children. Any time a great movie releases, there is always a demand for costumes based on the characters. This one is no exception!
Since seeing The Secret Life of Pets movie in the theater, my daughter has been a bit obsessed with it. She spotted a backpack with the little dog Gidget while we shopped for school supplies. She also picked out a new winter hat with Max on the front. It probably won’t take long before my daughter requests more dress up costumes!

Kids everywhere want to go out trick or treating on Halloween as one of the characters from this movie. You can find The Secret Life of Pets costumes that focus on the individual characters such as Gidget, Max, Duke, and Snowball the bunny. If you plan to get a group of kids together, each one can choose to go as a different character from the movie.
Most of these costumes are made in a jumpsuit style because you can get a better fit. Toddlers, preschoolers, and little kids come in all sizes making it difficult to create costumes for kids that are one size fits all.
Often you can get a better fit with jumpsuit style costumes. By using individual socks and shoes, you choose the color and don’t have to worry about them tripping over their feet if the costume is a little big. I love that they don’t include feet because I find my kids will fit in them longer for pretend play.
Some of these Secret Life of Pets costumes include the character head. The heads on these costumes may or may not be attached – it all depends on which costume you choose. Often the headpieces are more like a hat or a hood.
Many parents prefer these type of costumes because the child’s face is not obstructed. Being able to see clearly is important for Halloween safety while trick-or-treating. Whether they come with the character head or not, you can use face paint to complete the look!
The ones that are attached pull on easily and the ones that are not attached fit snugly, but not too tightly – with a simple fastener. These costumes are made in a variety of materials that are long lasting and you can find some that are made with 100% polyester.
The majority of these costumes need to be hand washed or dry cleaned if they get dirty. Depending on what the kids get on their costume, you may be able to simply wipe it clean. Some of these costumes have attached tails too.
Little boys and girls will love dressing up like their favorite The Secret Life of Pets character costumes for Halloween or pretend play. Dress up is a wonderful way to encourage a child’s creativity and the use of their imagination!
