Turkey Suncatcher Thanksgiving Craft
Making tissue paper turkey suncatchers is a fun and easy activity to do with your kids or students. It’s a low prep activity too, especially with the printable turkey craft template.
Cutting (or tearing) and gluing the pieces of tissue paper helps younger children work on fine motor skills too.
The turkeys are cute fall and Thanksgiving decorations. They look so pretty in the window with the sun shining through!
Another fun project to work on is this disguise the turkey Thanksgiving activity. Kids think it is so silly the turkey needs to hide, but they will get creative in how they disguise their turkeys.
You seriously can’t have enough turkey activities for children this time of year!

To create lasting decorations you can use year after year, we recommend laminating them with either a laminator machine or self adhesive laminating sheets.
We hope you enjoy making turkey suncatchers as much as we did. You can also use the turkey template we designed for other craft projects, painting, and coloring.

How to Make a Tissue Paper Turkey Suncatcher:
First you will need to download and print out our printable turkey craft template, which is available for free using the form at the end of this post. It is for your personal use at home or for your personal classroom only.
I recommend using regular printer paper for the turkey feather section as the light will shine through much easier than a heavier weight paper like cardstock.
Next you will need to cut various colors of tissue paper into small one inch squares. For a faster and easier project, you can buy pre-cut tissue paper squares!
Younger children can rip the tissue paper into smaller pieces and older children can cut their own squares.
Use liquid glue or glue sticks to apply tissue paper to the entire feather shape. It’s okay if the tissue paper overlaps or goes over the edges of the template outline.
Set the tissue paper covered turkey feathers aside to dry.
Then cut out the turkey body template.
Using the turkey body template, trace the shape onto a brown piece of construction paper. Then cut it out.
If you do not have construction paper or would prefer not to use it, have your kids color in the body instead.
On a corner of the orange construction paper, cut out a small triangle to use as the beak.
Also cut out a small, slightly curvy, oval shape from the red construction paper to use as the turkey’s snood (the red part that hangs over the beak).
Glue two googly eyes, the beak, and the snood onto the turkey body.
Check to make sure the glue is dry, then cut out the tissue paper feathers. Attach the turkey body onto the feathers with glue. Set aside to dry.
Once dry after assembling, use self-adhesive laminating sheets for a homemade decoration you can enjoy again, year after year!
Now you have pretty faux stained glass turkey suncatchers made with tissue paper.
Hang them in the window and enjoy! Use these removable mounting tabs to make it super easy to display them.
The printable turkey craft template can also be used to make other turkey crafts. Consider gluing feathers, sequins or pom pom balls onto the feathers next!

Hello, I have a question. Shouldn't the turkey suncatchers be laminated before the googly eyes are attached?

Yes, if you are laminating them, I'd do that first then add googly eyes (unless they are flat paper eyes that you are gluing on). We didn't laminate all the ones we were making.
